The salary schedule was modified to remove Substitute - Voluntary PreK (Day 1 through 20) and Substitute - Voluntary PreK (Long Term). It was originally left on the schedule to accommodate summer employment activity avoiding pay cuts. It no longer applies.

APPROVAL OF THE RIVERVIEW HIGH SCHOOL FIELD TRIP TO THE NATIONAL FFA CONVENTION IN INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA, ON OCTOBER 20, 2009 THROUGH OCTOBER 25, 2009Description Students will attend the National FFA Convention where they will participate in a career/trade show to learn of the endless opportunities in Agriculture. They will also be involved in leadership courses that pertain to going to college, how to be a better leader, and teamwork classes. One student was chosen to compete for the national title in the National Agriscience Fair.
Recommendation That the Riverview High School field trip to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, on October 20, 2009 through October 25, 2009, be approved.
EXPULSIONS
32. APPROVAL OF EXPULSION CASE NO. 09-025Description
School Board Policy 5.34(4) permits the Board to hold in abeyance the expulsion of a student if the student participates in a recognized alternative-to-expulsion program. This student is being placed in an alternative school.

The student listed in Expulsion Case No. 09-195, is in violation of an accepted Expulsion Settlement Agreement for an alternative school placement. On December 17, 2008, the student listed in Expulsion Case No. 09-195, violated School Board Policy 532(1)(e), Battery on a School Board Employee. It is the recommendation of the Superintendent that the student be expelled from the Sarasota County Schools until January 16 of the 2009-2010 academic year.
Recommendation
That in accordance with provisions of Sections 1006.07(1)(a)(b), Florida Statutes and School Board Policy 5.34, the holding of a hearing having been waived by the student/parent, the recommendation as specified in Expulsion Case No.09-195, to expel the student referenced therein from the Sarasota County Schools, be approved effective immediately until January 16 of the 2009-2010 academic year.

APPROVAL OF CALENDAR YEAR 2010 GROUP MEDICAL INSURANCE RENEWAL WITH BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD OF FLORIDADescription The Calendar year 2009 group medical insurance rates for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida will increase 7.5%. The rate increase is a result of our group claim experience and medical trend (inflation), which is 10.5%. Aon Consulting and the district's Risk Manager reviewed all the renewal underwriting assumptions and negotiated with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida to arrive at the 7.5% rate increase. The cost to the district for the 2010 calendar year is estimated to increase by $2,417,017 which is 7.5%.
Recommendation That the School Board of Sarasota County approve the renewal of the four district sponsored medical insurance plans from Blue cross Blue Shield of Florida with the rate increase of 7.5% for calendar year 2010 as presented.

This agreement provides services to students at McIntosh Middle School, Heron Creek Middle School and Emma E. Booker Elementary under the Challenge to Change/Safe to Out-of-School Suspension Program. It is an intensive therapeutic program which incorporates school support to at-risk youth ages 11-15.
